I’v been published in newspapers all around the world, but today is the first time I’m published in one of my local dailies here in Quebec city. It’s a stock photo of the image Mills sold through Canadian Press.

When you read an assignment sheet that says “Need photo of Monique Lépine mother of Marc Lepine who shot 14 women in Montreal in 1989”, you just cannot be in love with your job. You have to meet to many interesting character that most people will never meet. You see so many thing that most people will never see.
I photographed Monique Lépine while Canwest reporter Marianne White was interviewing her. As a new father of a 6 months and a half boy, it was sometime very difficult to keep the tears inside when listening to such a strong mother.
I’m so lucky to do this job.
The story was for Canwest news service and got huge play this morning, including the front of the National Post. The story can be read online.

Sometimes, when on assignment, I stop shooting and say out loud: “Men! I’m PAID to do that!”
It was the case with this one. “Softair gun” is a mix between BB gun (fusil à air comprimé) and paintball gun. The story was about a bunch of kids playing with them in a remote suburb of Quebec city, and how dangerous they can be. I asked a kid to shoot me at point blank. And yes, it hurt.
Anyway, I decided to do this assignment in a very “immersive” way. I was running everywhere with them, taking cover with them, and sometime getting hit by a stray bullet. That was so much fun!
