To stand in the heart of Arvida, with its plume-spewing smokestacks looming nearby, it’s tough to feel you’re getting a glimpse into a modern-day Eden.
Yet this remote Quebec community was born as a model city and cutting-edge town, a Silicon Valley of its day. And now, local residents are dreaming big: They want Arvida, an industrial “utopia” carved out of the Saguenay plain, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Parliament Hill (colloquially The Hill, in French: Colline du Parlement) is an area of Crown land on the southern banks of the Ottawa River in downtown with a Gothic revival suite of buildings, the parliament buildings, that serves as the home of the Parliament of Canada and contains a number of architectural elements of national symbolic importance.

I am in my last day in Ottawa after 5 days of shooting stock. I did not post-processed any images yet, except this one. I am leaving Friday morning to Kitchener-Waterloo where I will give a speech on stock photography at Wilfrid-Laurier University. Hopefully, I’ll make some photos there as well.

I use HDR very sparingly. But when I am in front of such a gritty location, I know this is the perfect subject for an HDR.
