Hello Stuart!
5D Mark II and 70-200 is a very nice combo for concert. Full frame, great high-ISO capability, and the ability to get closer with a sharp lens.
I like my 50mm f1.4. Had the 1.8 too, it’s a great sharp lens. The high aperture allows lots of light to come in, which is great for low-light venue, common with bands that are starting out.
The only thing is that those those 50 lens are known to not focus well in low light, which defeat the purpose to have them in concert in the first place. If you can rent/borrow one for a night before committing, that would be a smart move.

Hi Francis
I love your photography and am especially interested in your concert photography sevtion as is something I am keen to get into (have friends in bands who have asked me to photograph them).
I own a 5D MK II and am getting a 70-200 F2.8 IS II soon, which I think should be a good lens for gigs etc. I see you use this lens too, also thinking of getting a 50MM 1.8 incase 70mm is too much.
appreciate your thoughts
