Soldat Taumy St-Hilaire, un «van doo» du Royal 22e régiment, a risqué sa vie pour sauver celle de deux afghans, un père et son fils, pris au milieu d’un feu croisé lors d’une embuscade dont ont été victime la patrouille canadienne. Pour son geste, il a reçu l’étoile de la vaillance militaire, la seconde plus haute distinction canadienne, reçu par à peine 20 personnes depuis sa création. Trente minutes avec la Première ministre Pauline Marois dans son bureau pour le Globe and Mail. Photos candides pendant l’entrevue, et portrait à la toute fin si le temps le permet.
Le temps à justement été très serré. Après l’entrevue, le temps écoulé et sentant que c’était terminé, j’ai dû tirer un peu la couverte pour les portraits. “Je n’ai besoin que de 10 “clics” pour mon portrait, madame Marois”. Pour bien appuyer mes propos, j’ai pris 10 photos en faisant le décompte tout haut.

Avec un temps aussi restreint, pas le temps d’apporter les gros flashs studios. Trop long à monter et démonter. Et comme c’était ma première fois dans le bureau de la Première Ministre, je ne savais pas dans quel genre d’environnement j’allais me trouver. J’ai donc exposé plus ou moins un “stop” sous la lumière naturel (1000 ISO, 1/40 pour F4.5), et ajouté un petit flash speedlight avec un gel “full CTO” pour calquer la couleur de température ambiante et un “nid d’abeille” (grid) pour bien diriger la lumière sur madame Marois.

In just a matter of minutes, my friend and my guide for the Montreal Mile End neighbourhood Patrice and I walked by two old men sweeping in front of their apartment. It was a fun walk discover this part of the famous Plateau. In Montreal, Mile End is part of the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, but with a greater mix of Anglophone and Francophone multicultural population.
