Tout juste avant le début de conclave visant à choisir un nouveau pape, le Wall Street Journal, le plus gros quotidien anglophone du monde, m’a demandé d’accompagner un de ses journalistes comme photojournaliste et fixer à La Motte alors qu’un de ses résidents, le cardinal Marc Ouellet, était pressenti comme un favori pour être élu à la plus haut fonction de l’église catholique.
Après 850 km et 10 heures de route jusqu’à la petite ville abitibienne du nord du Québec, nous nous sommes installé chez un oncle de ma conjointe. En effet, celle qui partage ma vie vient de l’Abitibi et un de ses oncles est un résident de La Motte. Contrairement aux autres médias qui devait dormir à un hôtel à Amos, Val d’Or ou Rouyn-Noranda, nous avions la chance de dormir chez “un local” connaissant tout le monde de la place, ce qui nous donna un avantage certain lors des entrevues que nous voulions avoir.
Après avoir pris quelques photos d’ambiance de la ville, c’est-à-dire l’ancienne église transformée en centre communautaire et le seul commerce de la place, j’ai photographié l’entrevue de Louis Ouellet, un des frères du cardinal Ouellet, lors d’une longue et passionnante entrevue.

I took some feature photos at the Carnaval de Quebec winter Carnival yesterday for the Globe and Mail. Weekdays are pretty slow at the Carnaval and it make the task to find great images difficult.

I was covering the FIS Cross-Country World Cup in Quebec City for the Canadian Press. I was second shooter. My colleague was assigned to the start/finish line as I was covering other angles. I moved closer to the finish line for the finals, allowing me to get some great jubilation as well.
